Bang Bang Shrimp

A traditional Bang Bang Shrimp recipe features crispy fried shrimp tossed in a creamy, sweet, and spicy sauce. It became popular through Bonefish Grill but has roots in Asian-style crispy shrimp dishes. This recipe takes 20 minutes of prep and 10 minutes of cooking.
Directions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, honey (if using), and rice vinegar. Set aside.
- Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.
- Dip each shrimp into buttermilk, then dredge in the cornstarch mixture (cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika).
- Shake off excess coating.
- Fry the Shrimp: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry shrimp in batches for about 2 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Toss & Serve: Toss the hot shrimp in the Bang Bang sauce until well coated.
- Serve over shredded lettuce or cabbage, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 cup cornstarch (or a mix of flour and cornstarch for extra crispiness)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the Bang Bang Sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup Thai sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional, for added sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
For Garnish:
- Chopped green onions
- Sesame seeds
- Shredded lettuce or cabbage for serving
